Prasad first ME faculty member to receive NSF Career Award

Assistant professor Anamika Prasad is the first Department of Mechanical Engineering faculty member to receive the prestigious National Science Foundation CAREER award. The five-year, $531,740 grant will support basic science research using plants as an inspiration for designing and developing flexible composite materials.

USGS EROS brings Landsat scientists to Research Park

An area east of 22^nd Avenue in the Research Park at South Dakota State University was the ideal site for scientists working with Landsat satellites to take measurements that will help ensure the accuracy of a new line of U.S. Geological Survey Landsat science products.

Hillman grant to bring palliative care to rural, Native American cancer patients

Assistant nursing professors Sarah Mollman and Brandon Varilek will adapt Project ENABLE, a palliative care intervention developed and tested in rural New Hampshire and Vermont, to meet the needs of cancer patients in west central South Dakota. The project, which will be conducted in partnership with 
Avera Cancer Institute in Pierre, is made possible through a two-year, $100,000 Hillman Serious Illness and End-of-Life Emergent Innovation grant.

Researchers assess social media use during Jan. 6 event

The Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol Building gave associate professor Jenn Anderson and assistant professor Kathryn Coduto of the School of Communication and Journalism faculty an opportunity to examine what motivates compulsive social media use during a breaking news event.

Survey results are published in the Journal of Broadcasting and Electronic Media.
