SDSU researchers develop AI-powered model to predict stock market trends 

Can artificial intelligence tools predict stock price movement and volatility? Two South Dakota State University researchers — Kaiqun Fu and Yangxiao Bai — believe so. They have developed an AI-powered model that integrates macroeconomic data, search engine data and social media data to forecast stock market trends.

Invasive carp continue to be an ongoing threat to South Dakota

Invasive carp (formerly known as Asian carp) pose a significant threat to South Dakota's lakes and rivers, natural resources that are treasured by thousands of anglers, boaters and water sports enthusiasts each year. Alison Coulter, assistant professor in SDSU's Department of Natural Resource Management, and her collaborators are working in conjunction with South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks officials to ensure South Dakota's waters remain relatively free from "America's most unwanted fish."

SDSU researcher receives NSF grant to study disinfection byproducts in drinking water

A new project from South Dakota State University will look to develop an updated water treatment approach that minimizes the risk of potentially harmful disinfection byproducts. Guanghui Hua, a civil engineering professor, will serve as the primary investigator on this $206,472 National Science Foundation-backed project. He will continue his research on disinfection byproducts, a subject he has been studying continuously since completing his doctorate in 2006.

Whitney Yeobah, a recent South Dakota State University grad, explored the feasibility of Earthships — a type of sustainable, off-grid home that became popular during the COVID-19 pandemic — in Brookings County.
