The increasing number and size of wildfires often leads to dire situations in which the emergency managers must look at minimizing human casualties rather than getting everyone out. Assistant professor Dapeng Li of the Department of Geography and Geospatial Sciences is doing evacuation modeling to help prevent loss of human lives as a result of these dire situations.
Associate professor Reinaldo Tonkoski and assistant professor Tim Hansen have developed a statistical model to help orchestrate the integration of renewable energy into the electricity grid. The research is part of a multi-institutional two-year, $3 million Department of Energy EPSCoR project.
Associate professor Jennifer Ball of the Department of Pharmacy Practice is part of the Center for Family Medicine’s medication-assisted treatment addiction care team, which is treating patients and training professionals to deliver medication-assisted treatment for opioid addiction.
For her work, Ball was named outstanding scholar for the College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions.
