College Life

Affordable Off-Campus Activities for Every Day of the Week

Need a break from your surroundings now and again? There is plenty for an SDSU student to do out in the Brookings community. In fact, there are things to occupy yourself no matter what night of the week you have free.

Here are daily things you can do off campus without breaking the bank.

If spending time outdoors is your thing, check out the Dakota Nature Park. The park, located just four miles south of campus, provides gravel and paved trails for walking, biking and running, as well as water space for fishing, kayaking, canoeing and more. The park offers a variety of affordable equipment for rent, including fishing poles, snowshoes, kayaks, mountain bikes and more, at $10 for two hours.

For those film fans out there—Tuesday in Brookings is discount movie day! Enjoy a trip to Cinema 8, which offers a $5 deal on all movies all day long.

EdgeBrook Golf Course offers great deals for college students. Take some time off for golfing with your friends for only $5 for the Par 3 short course. The golf course also offers great deals on club and cart rentals.

If you haven't already heard, Splash Zone Waterpark at the Days Inn hosts a College Night (18+) for students every Thursday night during the school year. Don’t forget to bring your ID and $3 to get in! Check the Splash Zone Waterpark Facebook page for updates.

For the avid bikers, fall is a perfect time of year to take a trip to the SouthBrook Pump Park and get a little adventurous with your biking abilities. Enjoy some challenging terrain, using your body weight versus pedaling to propel yourself forward.

If you have some spare time, get your strikes in at Prairie Lanes Saturday nights. Bring your SDSU Student ID and enjoy $3 per game and $2 for shoe rental.

Feeling adventurous? You might want to check out the Outdoor Adventure Center of South Dakota for some archery fun. The center offers a variety of classes and memberships. You can also purchase a daily pass—just $15.
