When you're in college, you shouldn't have to sacrifice an experience because your wallet is running low on funds. That's why the ability to be entertained, stay healthy and remedy an empty stomach for free (or at a reduced rate) can make your day. Luckily, the South Dakota State University (SDState) campus and Brookings community offer a lot of stellar options for making this magic happen.
Here are four ways to save money on entertainment and eats as an SDState student.
Be Entertained for Free
There's nothing like a little free entertainment. At SDState, you have options for any taste or interest. Many a Jackrabbit loves to hit up sporting events on campus, which are free to students. In addition, you can check out a musical from the State University Theatre, which is free when you have your student ID in tow. The Weekend Stuff campus club also posts free events, including movie nights.
Be Entertained for Cheap
Inexpensive entertainment isn't restricted to just the SDState campus, though. Students can enjoy discounts across the Brookings community, including the Brookings Blizzard hockey team, which offers $4 off its regular-price ticket for students with a college ID in hand. Prairie Lanes Bowling also occasionally offers college league play or other opportunities to bowl at a discounted rate. The local SplashZone Waterpark also offers the occasional college night, so keep your eyes peeled or contact the facility for information on when the next college night will take place.
Get Fit for Free
Why spend money on a gym membership when you have an amazing facility right on the SDState campus? The Wellness Center offers plentiful options for free fitness, from self-guided exercise in gyms or pools, to group fitness via intramurals or club sports. In addition, you can even enjoy the Wellness Center's group fitness classes for free on occasion—check for the next time the center offers "Free Fitness Days" exclusively for students to try out your options.
Dine for Less
There's nothing like securing some food on the cheap. And when you have a dining plan at SDState, your options for on-campus eats are virtually endless. Check out the many available eateries open on campus that can save you the trouble (and some cash from your wallet) of going out to eat. If food discounts are what you're after, talking to the Students' Association is a good first step for a running list of all the latest and greatest SDState student discounts.
